We are very excited to announce the sponsorship of weekly Zoo Community Storytime by ConocoPhillips Alaska! This program is now FREE for zoo members and non-members alike weekly on Wednesdays in our Zoo Gateway Hall located outside of the entrance. The program is held from 10:30am-11am. We are WILD about encouraging kids to read!

Important Note as of 6/4/2025: Our bunny animal visitor is taking a short summer break. We will have an animal visitor scheduled soon! Some sessions may be book reading only in the meantime.

Special Session: Members-only Storytime on June 25th:

The June 25th members-only Storytime will take place on the Coffee Shop Lawn. Members will check in at admissions where they will get a blue ticket (1 per family). When they arrive at the lawn there will be a "private event" sign across from the Gazebo. A volunteer will be there to welcome members and their guests and take their ticket. The theme of the program will be alpaca stories and crafts. The zoo alpacas Fuzzy Charlie, Fluffy Matt and Pablo will be nearby as we discuss alpacas!

This program will be for members and their guests only. If you are not a member, you can join the zoo family today!

Regular Weekly Storytime Details:

  • Animal books read by a zoo educator.

  • Weekly on Wednesdays all year long.

  • Program is from 10:30-11am.

  • No registration! Just join us!

  • Free Storytime tote bags and coloring sets while supplies last.

  • Program attendance is FREE!

  • Kids must be accompanied by an adult (parent, grandparent, family member, guardian). Ratio is 1 adult to 5 kids.

  • Best suited for ages 7 and under but all ages of emerging readers welcome!

  • New props and floor cushions.

We encourage all participants to walk the trails after the program, paying special attention to visit the animal species featured in the books of the day. Those who choose to enter the zoo will pay regular rates or use their memberships as usual.

If you do visit the zoo after Storytime, be sure to stop by the Gift Shop as well as our Coffee Shop managed by Kape Espresso Tayo! The space is remodeled and they are offering a full espresso bar, cold drinks and freshly baked Filipino pastries. Yummmm!
